An event is free up to 30 invites. Above that it is $5, paid once, for up to 150. A household counts once.
You are asked when you send. Once the list passes 30, the button still reads Send to 38 and More than 30 invites shows beside it. Press it and a sheet asks you to pay for this event, $5, or buy the year, $39.
Pay by card, or by Apple Pay or Google Pay where your device offers them. Stripe takes the payment; your card number never reaches us. Nothing is sent until the payment has gone through, and if it doesn't go through, nothing is charged.
Close the sheet without paying and nothing is charged, sent or saved.
A paid event can grow to 150 at no extra cost. A free event that passes 30 when you invite more people asks for the $5 at that point, and the new people are invited once it's paid. A free event never becomes paid on its own.
